Melissa Fernandez

Melissa grew up in the San Fernando Valley playing club soccer and earning a scholarship to play at Cal State University of Northridge. Melissa senior year, she earned Big West tournament MVP helping her team to their first NCAA birth in 2012. Melissa then became a volunteer assistant coach for CSUN for two years. Melissa has played in the WPSL and UWS (formerly known as W League) for 10 years for local teams such as Santa Clarita Blue Heat, LA Strikers and LA Villa. She was also a Portland Thorns trialist in 2014. In 2018, Melissa joined LA Valley College as an assistant coach and is now the head coach for the junior college.

Melissa has since began to pursue a career advocating for people in need and has spent 2019 interning at a Behavioral Health Unit.  In December 2019, she will be graduating with her Master's in Social Work from USC. Melissa plans to continue to work in the adult mental health field as well as coaching club soccer.
