Felipe Gonzalez
By the age of 6, Felipe was playing at elementary school in Mexico as a goalie, even though he was the smallest kid. Once he dove to save his first shot, that was it - he was hooked. The boys asked to play goalie on the neighborhood team. Once here in the US, Felipe played for Inglewood High School and was moved to the Varsity team in his sophomore year. He continued his soccer career as a keeper for Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Once in his early 20s, he started coaching and absolutely fell in love with it, even changing his career from becoming a police officer to a P.E. Teacher. He felt the desire to help his community and found the perfect space to do so. Coaching allows him to go beyond merely teaching the game and its rules by instilling commitment, responsibility, and life-long skills essential to becoming a better person and improving our collective lives.
As a coach, Felipe’s goals align with the goals of his current players. He understands not every player wants to go pro, and others want to play college. He will focus on player development, and help them reach their next step in their soccer career, no matter what that step may be. Felipe likes to categorize himself as a development coach, focusing on both player goals and team goals. He brings a nurturing, adaptable, helpful personality to the club, while also focusing on the demands of the game.
